Welcome to Pastor's Playlist

Welcome to a brand new page on our website! I’m glad you’ve found it! I’ve been thinking about writing a blog for a little while - if anything just for the practice of writing something a little more consistently than a sermon or regular weekly emails. And I’ve been going back and forth about the content that I want to create.

Until now. For some time, as the summer approaches, millions of people around the world work to make the perfect “summer playlist” to soundtrack their adventures - on drives or vacations, enjoying the sun, or just fantasizing about something other than the monotony of the working hours. So welcome to a series I’d like to call, “Pastor’s Playlist.”

Now, music is not the only kind of media that I consume. I probably waste hours a month flipping between options of shows or movies on good ol’ Netflix and I’m notorious for visiting the library on my days off to find another good read. So this is more than just vibes and sound clips. Each week, I am going to choose from a song, piece of art, tv show or movie, or book that I am currently …consuming(? Is that the right word?) and talk about why it’s speaking to me - particularly from the vantage point of faith. Now the media we’re talking about here is not necessarily going to be Christian media. I have my reservations about going that route because there is objectively so much BAD Christian media. To be fair, there’s good Christian media, too, and I won’t be avoiding it. But I am so much more curious about how God shows up in the unexpected places - and, I’d argue, human creativity is a gift that God has given to us. Someone who is able to paint a beautiful picture doesn’t need the subject to be about a biblical story for it to speak to us on a spiritual level. I think that’s really what I’m getting at here. Anyway, I plan on sharing some sort of link to the media I’ll be talking about and then plan on writing about how it speaks to me in a way I feel like I can connect to.

So, buckle up. Grab your shades. We’re about to press play and see where this road takes the both of us!

As I mentioned in last week's post, I am a big unreserved fan of Taylor Swift's music. For better or worse, whatever you think of her, I've been impressed with her ability to coin or turn a phrase jus
